STB to review railroad service issues

The Surface Transportation Board announced Tuesday, April 1, 2014 that it will hold a public hearing on April 10 “to provide interested persons the opportunity to report on recent railroad service issues, review proposed solutions to existing service problems, and discuss additional options to improve service.”

Cincinnati streetcar delay costs nearly $1 million

Efforts led by Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley last December to scuttle the city’s initial streetcar line generated much discussion on the cost of delay, let alone abandonment. The delay’s cost, exacerbated by cold weather, has now been determined: almost $1 million.

MUNI eyes new E train route

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has approved a plan that will increase MUNI service by 12%, adjust numerous bus routes, and create a new E- Embarcadero streetcar line.

KC OKs more streetcars, minus a neighborhood

A conceptual plan for streetcar extensions totaling almost eight miles was given the go-ahead Thursday, March 27, 2014, by the Kansas City city council, with a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) element also approved.

Michigan loans Detroit M1 project $10 million

Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Strategic Fund has approved a 10-year loan, with a 2% interest rate, to assist development of Detroit’s streetcar plan, currently still dubbed M1 (or M-1).
