Hoosier State fate still unresolved

The Indiana Department of Transportation said it has ended contract negotiations with Chicago-based Corridor Capital LLC to provide passenger rail cars, marketing,and other services for Hoosier State service between Indianapolis and Chicago.

GWI 3Q earnings and revenue rise

Darien, Conn.-based Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 reported third-quarter net income of $72.9 million, compared with net income of $66.2 million in the third quarter of 2013. Excluding the net impact of certain significant items discussed below, G&W’s adjusted net income in the third quarter of 2014 was $69.3 million, compared with adjusted net income of $59.8 million in the third quarter of 2013.

FreightCar America 3Q earnings much improved

FreightCar America, Inc. reported third-quarter net income of $6.4 million, or 53 cents per diluted share, much better than the loss of $900,000, or 8 cents per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2013.  Chicago-based FreightCar America announced the results late Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, after the close of trading on Wall Street.

Greenbrier Cos. touts record 4Q, full year

The Greenbrier Cos., Inc. on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 announced “record results for [the] fourth quarter and fiscal year,” adding it had received orders of “an additional 11,400 units” after its fiscal fourth quarter ended on Aug. 31, 2014.

Ontario election results bode well for LRT

North American rail suppliers and industry observers (and advocates) paid close attention to election results Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, in Toronto, where city voters elected John Tory to succeed Mayor Rob Ford, the latter a severe critic of city passenger rail expansion plans. But results in other Ontario urban areas also bode well for urban rail transit, particularly light rail transit (LRT).
