RailComm aids Michigan short line dispatching

Marquette, Mich.-based Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad (LS&I) has been using RailComm’s state-of-the-art Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system to dispatch its railroad since 2007, but the DOC® System at LS&I will soon be able to be accessed through web-enabled software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery.

The second of two tunneling machines working on Sound Transit’s underground light rail transit route linking the University of Washington and Capitol Hill completed roughly two miles of underground passageway Monday afternoon.

CN, CSX offer rail interchange at Chicago

Canadian National has announced a new rail interchange service with CSX Transportation (CSX) over the Chicago gateway. Prior to this agreement, CN and CSX exchanged containers in Chicago only by truck.

New cost estimate for California HSR

The California High-Speed Rail Authority Monday is expected to offer an updated estimate for construction and financing of a statewide high speed rail network. Cost estimates, which began at about $44 billion for 700 miles of right-of-way, had escalated to nearly $100 billion.

Joint venture awarded Tucson streetcar contract

Granite Construction Inc. announced late Thursday that it and RailWorks Track Systems have been awarded a a $56 million contract by Tucson, Ariz., to build the city’s 3.9-mile streetcar project. The two companies have formed a joint venture, Old Pueblo Trackworks, to perform the work.

LIRR East End DMU plan now funded

MTA Long Island Rail Road long has had plans to provide diesel multiple-unit (DMU) service to its riders on both the North Fork and South Fork of the railroad’s namesake territory. Those plans now have capital funding identified.
