For Arlington County streetcar, a PPP option

Arlington County (Va.) Board members Monday approved plans to explore a public-private partnership arrangement to advance its proposed Columbia Pike streetcar. But the approval was strongly contested by a recently elected board member, whose campaign included strident disapproval of any streetcar project.

Virgin Trains extends Bombardier contract

British West Coast Main Line operator Virgin Trains has extended its contract with Bombardier until March 2016 to maintain its fleet of Super Voyager diesel trains. The contract is worth about £106 million (roughly $171 million).

Greenbrier Cos. tapped by Statoil

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. said Monday it has been selected by energy provider Statoil Marketing and Trading (US), Inc. “to deliver comprehensive railcar management and maintenance solutions for Statoil’s fleet of more than 1,000 tank cars.”

APTA: Transit ridership rising in 2012

The American Public Transportation Association on Monday said more than 7.9 billion trips were taken on U.S. public transportation in the first three quarters of 2012, an increase of 2.6% over the corresponding period in 2011.

Massachusetts: No Green Line PTC for now
