Port of LA Posts ‘Strong’ June Volume

The Port of Los Angeles processed 827,757 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in June, a 10% increase over the previous month and less than 1% compared to last June, which was the Port’s best month in 2023. Six months into 2024, the Port of Los Angeles is 14% ahead of the previous year.

BNSF Seeks to Add New Location to Existing SCABT Waiver

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on July 16 announced that BNSF has requested to add the Missoula, Mont., location to its existing waiver regarding single air brake tests (SCABT), which permits the Class I railroad to change the repair track designation so that the track on which in-train wheel replacements are performed “is not designated a shop or repair track.”

AAR: North American Rail Volume Up Through Week 28

Through the first 28 weeks of 2024 (ending July 13), total North American carload and intermodal traffic rose 1.3% from the same point last year, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR). The U.S., Canada and Mexico all experienced gains.

Amtrak Awards Construction Contract for East River Tunnel Rehabilitation
