AAR: North American Rail Volume Up in Week 46

Total North American carload and intermodal traffic rose 2.2% through the first 46 weeks of 2024 compared with the same period last year, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Nov. 20. SC Ports: ‘Well-Positioned’ to Speed Goods to Market, Support Growth in Southeast

South Carolina (SC) Ports recently reported that with its “three big-ship capable terminals and a total of 10 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) on the horizon, the deepest harbor on the U.S. East Coast at 52 feet, two rail-served inland ports, and a near-port rail yard under construction,” it is “well-positioned” to speed goods to market and support growth in the Southeast.

PANYNJ Awards $1.184B Design-Build Contract to Tutor Perini/O&G for AirTrain Newark System

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) on Nov. 14 announced that it has selected the joint-venture firm of Tutor Perini/O&G to design and build a new 2.5-mile elevated rail structure and three new stations to replace its existing AirTrain Newark on-airport mass transit system.
