Transport Canada to Launch C$136MM Digital Infrastructure Initiative for Supply Chains

The government of Canada intends to launch the C$136 million Advancing Industry-Driven Digitalization of Canada’s Supply Chain initiative to “improve the efficiency and resiliency of Canada’s supply chain,” Transport Canada announced on Oct. 14.

TransLink customers can now receive email or text message notifications about closures to elevators, escalators or station entrances on the system in real time.

According to CalSTA, 70% of the Port and Freight Infrastructure Program funding will go to projects that support goods movement through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

California Supply Chain Receives $1.2 Billion in State Funding

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) on Oct. 12 issued final guidelines and a call for projects for $1.2 billion in one-time state funding for port and infrastructure projects to “build a more efficient, sustainable and resilient goods movement system.”

WisDOT Awards TEA Grants for CN Rail Spur Projects

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced on Oct. 6 that it has awarded two Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grants to allow rail spurs to be built to existing CN lines at Alliance Plastics Inc. and Drexel Systems LLC, two tenants in the state’s newest industrial park located in Wrightstown, Wisc. The grants are expected to add more than 120 manufacturing jobs.

NTT DATA plans to deploy more than 600,000 of Nexxiot’s Cargo Monitor devices over the next five years.

Nexxiot Named Preferred IoT Solution Provider

Zurich, Switzerland-based digitized supply chain company Nexxiot announced on Oct. 7 that it has been selected by NTT DATA as the preferred IoT (internet of things) solution provider for Connected Product, a global cargo tracking solution jointly developed by NTT DATA and SAP and powered by SAP® Business Network for Logistics to improve insurance management for global supply chains.

Canadian Supply Chain Task Force Issues Final Report

Transport Canada announced on Oct. 6 that Minister Omar Alghabra is reviewing “with great interest” the recently released National Supply Chain Task Force’s final report, which focuses on “areas of action, collaboration and transformation” and will aid in the creation of a National Supply Chain Strategy for the country.

MnDOT Seeks Grant Applicants for Rail Service Improvements

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced on Oct. 3 that $6.5 million in grants are available for railroads, rail shippers, cities and counties to improve freight service that supports economic development. The funding is available through the 2022 Minnesota Rail Service Improvement (MRSI) program, which was approved during the 2021 special legislative session.
