KCS’s Shreveport Operation Receives ISO Certification

Kansas City Southern (KCS) on Dec. 13 announced that its Shreveport, La. Operation has received International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification for 14001 (Environmental) and 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).

Associations Petition TSA for Extension of Surface Cyber Risk Management Comment Period

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA), the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and six other groups have petitioned the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for an extension to the public comment period on an advance notice of proposed rulemaking concerning surface cyber risk management.

Metro-North’s Penn Station Access project breaks ground in the Bronx. Also, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) takes over operational control of Grand Central Madison; the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) receives award for “distinguished budget presentation”; and joint funding of up to C$1.5 billion will go to the expansion and rehabilitation of the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Bloor-Yonge Subway Station.

10 Days Paid Sick Leave ‘Now a Reality’: Canada

Ten days of paid sick leave (medical leave with pay) is “now a reality in all federally regulated private sector workplaces,” railroads among them, the Government of Canada announced on Dec. 1.

R.J. Corman Awarded Switching Service Operations Contract

R.J. Corman Railroad Switching Company, LLC, a subsidiary of R.J. Corman Railroad Group, announced that it has been awarded a five-year contract to provide Sasol with switching service operations to the company’s Lake Charles Chemical Complex in Westlake, La., beginning Dec. 1.

RailVision Secures $4MM in Seed Funding

Canada-based RailVision Analytics, which was launched in 2020 with the objective of “helping the railway industry reduce its fuel consumption and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions,” announced Nov. 30 that it has closed a $4 million seed funding round from investors to be used for technical hiring, growing the company’s development team, and expanding its product line and customer base.

RTD Submits ‘Zero Fare for Better Air’ Final Report

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) on Nov. 30 announced that it has submitted a final report to the Colorado Energy Office detailing the outcomes of its inaugural Zero Fare for Better Air (ZFBA) period, which took place this past August, as a requirement of the Ozone Season Free Transit Grant Program created in the Colorado Senate Bill 22-180.

NYCT crews have completed deep cleaning at six out of the nine Bronx stations with the final three expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
