Fully electric cranes are operational at Norfolk Southern’s (NS) Austell, Ga. intermodal facility. Also, following a series of significant winter weather-related service challenges across much of the Northern Corridor, BNSF reported that the railroad’s overall velocity in the week ending Jan. 3 improved versus the week between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and was slightly higher than the average for December.

BTS: October 2022 Transborder Freight Up 13.9%

According to the most recent figures from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), $133.8 billion of North American transborder freight was moved by all modes of transportation in October 2022, up 13.9% compared to the same month last year.

GWI Proposes to Merge CHAT With, Into BAYL

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) on Dec. 21 filed a verified notice of exemption with the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to convert Chattahoochee Bay Railroad LLC, a Delaware Corporation, into Chattahoochee Bay Rail Railroad LLC (CHAT LLC), a Delaware liability company, which will result into CHAT merging with and into the Bay Line Railroad, L.L.C. (BAYL).

Following a thorough evaluation of Request for Qualifications (RFQ) submissions, the Government of British Columbia announced Jan. 3 that it has invited two teams to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage to design, build and finance the elevated guideway, roadworks and utilities, as well as active transportation elements of the Surrey Langley SkyTrain.

Central South Carolina Megasite Receives ‘CSX Select Site’ Designation

CSX on Jan. 4 announced, along with the Central South Carolina (SC) Alliance, that the 1,426-acre Central South Carolina Megasite in Lugoff, S.C., has been designated a CSX Select Site, a “development-ready property along the CSX network where standard land use consideration and comprehensive due diligence items have been previously addressed.”
