Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) releases a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the final design and construction of the Austin Light Rail project. Also, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is on track to complete improvements at 44 rail stations and bus turnarounds by the end of the year.

AAR: North American Rail Volume Up Through Week 31

North American carload and intermodal traffic for the first 31 weeks of 2025 (ending Aug. 2) was up 2.9% from the prior-year period, according to the Association of American Railroads’ (AAR) latest rail traffic report. While the United States and Canada both saw gains, Mexico experienced a loss.

SCFE Taps Starnes as Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Manager

Class III rail service provider South Central Florida Express (SCFE) on Aug. 5 announced that it has hired Chris Starnes as Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Manager. He will be responsible for “leading efforts to drive business development, expand the customer base, and elevate the value of SCFE’s rail services throughout the region.”

H.W. Lochner, Inc. (Lochner) has merged with international consultancy Egis to significantly expand Egis’ presence in the U.S., “combining the strengths of both firms to deliver greater value to clients and communities.”

PennDOT: 2025 Rail Freight Grant Application Period Now Open

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) on Aug. 4 announced that the application period for the grants under the Rail Transportation Assistance Program (RTA) and the Rail Freight Assistance Program (RFAP) is now open with $41 million available to support rail freight infrastructure and safety.
