Trinity Industries, Inc. announced March 9 that it has acquired RSI Logistics, a data-centric provider of proprietary software logistics services and terminal management solutions to the North American rail industry, for $70 million.

BNSF, IAMAW, BRS and SMART-MD Agreed to Paid Sick Leave

BNSF on March 9 reported reaching agreements with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW); the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS); and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers-Mechanical and Engineering Department (SMART-MD) for paid sick leave.

FTA: $4.45B for Major Transit Projects

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on March 9 announced that 18 large transit projects in 11 states across the U.S. were recommended to receive $4.45 billion for construction by U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

NS to Establish Ohio Training Center, Expand OAR Program

Norfolk Southern (NS) on March 8 announced that it will create a new regional training center in Ohio for first responders and expand its Operation Awareness & Response (OAR) program, which travels the company’s 22-state network and trains 5,000 first responders annually on how to respond safely to rail incidents.

APTA Honors 2023 AdWheel Awards Winners

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) last week honored the First Place winners of its 2023 AdWheel Awads, which recognizes APTA member public transportation systems and business members for “outstanding marketing and communications efforts that contributed to strategic organizational goals.”

U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 4, 2023 (Week 9) dipped 6.3% from the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Feb. 22.
