The Greenbrier Companies (GBX) has amended its 50/50 joint venture agreement with Grupo Industrial Monclova, S.A. De C.V. (GIMSA), its manufacturing partner at Greenbrier GIMSA facilities in Monclova, Mexico. This and other measures aim to help GBX achieve its goal of $1 billion in total liquidity.

Infinity Launches SLC-Chicago Intermodal Service, Shakes Up Exec Team

Infinity Intermodal launched its expedited, temp-controlled intermodal service from Salt Lake City to Chicago (with return service from Chicago to Salt Lake City) in May 2020. The new service is three days door-to-door and allows Infinity Intermodal to provide refrigerated intermodal service throughout the greater Salt Lake City market including areas of southern Idaho such as Pocatello, Twin Falls, Heyburn, Burley, American Falls, Jerome and Idaho Falls.

According to a report in The Daily Journal, Caltrain officials are projecting a long road to recovery from the financial blow dealt by COVID-19, and recently even floated the possibility of a system-wide shutdown if new revenue sources are not secured—even after the economy is reopened.

UTLX to Convert Sheldon Tank Car Plant to Repair Facility

Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) plans to convert its railroad tank car manufacturing plant in Sheldon, Tex., to a railcar repair facility. The company expects to cease manufacturing operations at the facility in August 2020 and establish repair operations over the coming year.

The National Park Service (NPS), Union Pacific (UP) and the National Park Foundation (NPF) released the Junior Ranger Railroad Explorer activity booklet, which can be obtained for free from NPS.gov.

Loureiro to Replace Stalwart Jones as KCS VP, Chief Engineer

Kansas City Southern (KCS) has appointed Manny Loureiro as Vice President and Chief Engineer with responsibility for the engineering departments in the U.S. and Mexico. He reports to KCS Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey M. Songer, and replaces Vernon “Buck” Jones, who plans to retire this summer after a 42-year career with the company.
