Alvin “Pete” Carpenter, 1942-2019

Alvin “Pete” Carpenter, who worked his way up from railroad brakeman to President and CEO of CSX Transportation, died Aug. 20 following a battle with cancer. He was 77.

FRA SOGR Grants Top $272MM

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded more than $272 million in grants to 10 passenger rail projects in as many states. The funding is provided through FRA’s Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair Program (SOGR Program), and will help to repair and rehabilitate railroad infrastructure around the country.

NEARS Announces Award Winners, Conference Details

The North East Association of Rail Shippers (NEARS) announced that Michael Smith, President, Finger Lakes Railway Corporation, has been named its 2019 Transportation Person of the Year, and Erik Bohn and Gerald Racette will be inducted into the NEARS Hall of Fame.
