NEARS Fall Meeting Switched to Virtual Conference

Due to the ongoing concerns with COVID-19, the NEARS Fall 2020 Virtual Conference in Pittsburgh, Penn., has been switched to a Live Virtual Conference Format, scheduled for Sept. 21-25. The conference plans to have live panels, a Q&A, and many interactive features.

CN Publishes Grain Plan, Invests in 1,500 High-Capacity Grain Hoppers

CN plans to acquire 1,500 new-generation, high-capacity grain hopper cars with delivery starting in January 2021. The new railcars aim to “encourage the economic recovery through job creation in the North American manufacturing sector and help CN continue to meet the growing needs of grain farmers and grain customers,” the company said.

Report Highlights Harsco’s Sustainability Efforts

Harsco Corporation released its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Report, the highlights of which include that more than 80% of the company’s revenues are now derived from environmental solutions, compared to about 60% three years ago.

Lauthier to Lead Humatics’ NYC Team

Microlocation products and software provider Humatics Corp. announced that its Director of Sales, Rail and Transit Joffrey Lauthier has been appointed to lead its New York City team, which aims to improve the city’s transit system. The announcement comes on the heels of a 15-month signaling pilot leveraging ultra-wideband (UWB) technology with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Siemens on the L train.

CP: “We’re Committed to Doing More” on Sustainability

Canadian Pacific (CP) has released its first public statement on climate change, which acknowledges the effects of rising global temperatures and lays out CP’s commitment to mitigate the impacts as well as supports the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change, which seek to limit global temperature rise to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

NJ Transit Tests Eco-Friendly LRV Exterior Wraps

NJ Transit’s River Line is testing a new method of refurbishing and maintaining the exteriors of light rail vehicles (LRV) that aims to be more cost-effective, environmentally safer and easier to apply than traditional painting. The new technique involves the use of wraps, similar to decals, to cover the exterior of the vehicles.
