In its third year of existence, the 2019 Women in Rail awards are poised to be the most exciting yet. Recognizing vision, ability and leadership, our 12 honorees from freight, transit and supplier companies as well as trade organizations were selected by a panel of judges. They received the nod because they have been—and still are—moving their companies forward while making contributions to the community. In an industry typically dominated by men, these women are getting things done—and their hard work is an example for all.

Lucky 7: Railroad Software Celebrates Anniversary

Founded in 2012 with the goal of making software available and affordable to every rail yard and railroad in the world regardless of their size or technical capabilities, Railroad Software celebrated its seventh anniversary on Friday, Nov. 1.

Bombardier Sees 8% Organic Growth in 3Q19

Bombardier Transportation reported its 3Q19 financial results, and among the highlights are consolidated revenues of $3.7 billion, representing 8% organic growth, and a consolidated adjusted EBITDA and adjusted EBIT of $255 million and $159 million, respectively.

Wabtec Generates $124MM in 3Q19

Wabtec Corp. recently reported its 3Q19 results, which include earnings per diluted share of $0.48 and adjusted earnings per diluted share of $1.03. In addition, Wabtec noted that it generated GAAP cash from operations of $124 million for the quarter and affirmed its 2019 GAAP cash from operations guidance of about $900 million.

FRA Issues $24MM Maglev NOFO

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) recently published a Notice of Grant Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a shade over $24 million for the Magnetic Levitation Technology Deployment Program (Maglev Grants Program).

AAR: U.S. Traffic Not Improving

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) recently reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ended Oct. 26, 2019, and for this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 513,147 carloads and intermodal units, down 8.8% compared with the same week last year.

KCS Releases 2018 Sustainability Report

Kansas City Southern (KCS) recently released its 2018 sustainability report, “For the Long Haul: Delivering Prosperity, Valuing People, Protecting the Planet,” the highlight of which saw KCS “reduce its carbon footprint by reducing waste and energy usage through design and innovation and decreasing Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing fuel-reduction technologies and operational initiatives.”

CP Hosts Connect 2019 to Foster Growth

Canadian Pacific (CP) recently brought together short line railroads and transload operators, representatives of more than 50 companies, to its Calgary headquarters for Connect 2019—an effort to nurture collaboration and develop efficient service offerings to customers, with the goal of fostering sustainable, profitable growth.
