VTMI is seeking an experienced railroad track superintendent to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable railroad construction project completion. This position requires a very careful adherence to well-defined work where repeatable quality results are needed. The work is highly precise in nature and requires a strong attention to detail. The position will assist the Project  Manager in overall supervision of the contract.

Duties:
 
High level of field construction knowledge in railroad construction and maintenance.
 
Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and documents.
 
Ability to work independently on a multiple project basis.
 
Ability to work in a fast paced field construction environment and to handle deadlines.
 
Capability to meet or exceed budgets and production schedules.
 
Must have the ability to work within FRA regulated areas that require the ability to perform at the highest level of safety.
 
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in railroad track construction with a major railroad construction firm and / or class 1 railroad. Including at least five (5) years experience in supervising or directing the work of others engaged in railroad track construction.
 
Ability to read and understand contract documents
 
Knowledge of the safe and proper procedures for operating railroad equipment including hand and power tools.
 
Must be able to demonstrate ability to communicate in written and verbal English language with prior record keeping experience.  
 
Must possess strong leadership interpersonal skills and the ability to plan and manage large projects
 
Knowledge of monitoring personnel and conditions at worksites to avoid unsafe practices and conditions
 
Ability to coordinate with Contract Quality Control Representatives and Owners Representatives in all related activities
 
Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
 
Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled construction work at any time on any day of the week.
 
Must have, or obtain within six weeks of start date, a valid drivers license with no more than three moving violations and no DUIs within the last three years.
 
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination including a drug and alcohol test.
 
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs and must have the ability to distinguish colors and to hear warning signals and radio and telephone devices.
 
Must be available to work nights weekends and holidays
