POSITION OBJECTIVE
Develop, design, plan, budget and supervise projects for track, switch and interlocking issues, and sustainable systems as they relate to the integrity of track structures on Metro-North Railroad in order to provide safe and reliable operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and prepare track analysis as it relates to switch and interlocking installations. 



Assist in the evaluation of future major maintenance and Capital programs which includes developing cost estimates. 



Develop project scope and planning schedules for in-house projects to perform work safely and efficiently, in compliance with Metro-North’s Safety Program. 



Direct subordinates in efficient use of budgeted resources and review allocation of personnel, materials and equipment for all project work. 



Coordinate all work efforts on interdepartmental projects with various department managers to ensure maximum productivity and cooperation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of track layout analysis and the ability to design and analyze interlocking and switch systems and site planning which impact tracks, culvert and tunnels. 



Knowledge of track structure and special track work, including repair, rehabilitation and construction of track and the materials and equipment associated with the work. 



Ability to analyze complex situation involving layout of switch and interlocking components and make quick and effective decisions.



Strong oral presentation and written communication skills. 



Project management and coordination skills which include quality control and quality assurance measures.



Strong ability to interact with internal departments as well as city, state and federal agencies. 



Ability to stay current on track and track structure issues as related to Railroad activities. 



Knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications. 



Knowledge of FRA standards and procedures. 



Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements. 



Available and on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
NYS Professional Engineering License

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum five (5) years of experience in track and right-of-way environment, which includes constructing and rehabilitating track structures and their components (i.e., switch and interlocking). 

Minimum five (5) years project management experience with adherence to deadlines. 

Candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
BS or BE in Civil Engineering

OTHER INFORMATION
This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
