We have an immediate opening for a Principal Engineer. 
This position will be the lead staff engineer for test and analytical projects funded by the FRA, AAR, member railroads, and commercial clients, by providing professional engineering and scientific services to AAR/R&T internal and external customers as directed by the Engineering Services director. Will develop and prepare technical and cost proposals to government and commercial clients, manage and participate in field testing, data reduction, report writing, and use of mathematical models. Technical presentations to audience of various sizes and customer bases will be required. Focus of this position will be railway infrastructure with emphasis in railway geotechnology
Requires a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Five-ten years of experience applying engineering principles and managing various civil engineering projects. Must be computer oriented, and have demonstrable skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must, along with demonstrable analytical capability. In depth knowledge in soil mechanics, civil engineering materials, and foundation engineering. Knowledge/experience in design of experiments, data collection methods, data analysis methods. Authoring technical papers/reports, and making technical presentations.
Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
Professional License (PE) in Civil Engineering, and extensive railroad engineering/research background highly preferred.
