MARTA’s service population is 1.65 million in the City of Atlanta, Fulton and Dekalb Counties. MARTA provides service for nearly half a million passenger boarding’s each weekday.
MARTA operates 600 buses with 132 bus routes covering 1000 route miles per day. MARTA’s Mobility service operates 175 lift-vans. MARTA operates 338 rail cars in 38 stations on 48.1 miles of rail. MARTA provides direct access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a rail station that drops off right inside the terminal.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Safety Engineering, Transportation, the Physical Sciences, or a related field. Master’s degree in Safety Engineering Management or closely related field preferred. Eight years of professional experience in the management, planning, and monitoring of safety, fire protection, occupational and environmental activities. Experience in major diversified transit programs preferred. At least four years supervisory and management experience and a strong background in developing and implementing safety and environmental programs in a complex setting. Experience in performing comprehensive operational safety/quality reviews and analyses. Professional certification or registration in a safety discipline (Professional Engineer or Certified Safety Professional). Completion of U.S. Department of Transportation courses in Rail Transit Safety Program Management and Accident Investigation is preferred. In lieu of a degree, directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Professional certification or registration in a safety discipline (Professional Engineer or Certified Safety Professional) is required. Completion of U.S. Department of Transportation courses in Rail Transit
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Personnel in this class will be required to successfully complete MARTA’s Wayside Access Training and may be called upon at any time to enter the wayside in performance of assigned duties. This will require knowledge of and ability to perform train-flagging procedures to control train movement for the protection of the individual or others on the wayside.
