CSX and partners complete Liberty Corridor Freightway

Representatives of CSX Transportation, the State ofNew Jersey, and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey joined U.S.Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) on Oct. 8 in North Bergen, N.J., to celebrate its completion. Many attending the festivities boarded a special passenger train to tour the improved route from North Bergen to Maher Terminals, straddling the Newark-Elizabeth waterfront. ![]()
"Enabling double-stackintermodal freight to flow from the Port of New York and New Jersey to inlanddestinations, the Liberty Corridor Freightway will increase train capacity, improveservice levels and expedite freight flows to and from inland ports," saidCSXT in a statement. "Theproject will also help keep thousands of trucks off crowded highways eachyear."
"The Liberty CorridorFreightway builds our partnership with the port and region by enabling us tomore efficiently move intermodal freight," said Clarence W. Gooden,executive vice president and chief commercial officer, CSX. "This projectprepares us, and the region, for continued growth as a leading freight hub."
Senator Menendez said theproject "will be a jobs and economic activity engine for our state, whichis the primary reason I worked to create the Liberty Corridor initiative inCongress."
