American Railcar posts loss as shipments drop

Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefAmerican Railcar Industries reported Thursday that it had a third-quarter net loss of $6.2 million or 29 cents per share on revenue of $64.8 million, compared with earnings of $.1 million or five cents per share on revenue of $78.1 million in the third quarter of 2009.
Third-quarter shipments dropped to 420 railcars compared with 610 in the 2009 third quarter. The company’s new order backlog was approximately 1,430 cars on Sept. 30.
