Bombardier/Alstom comfirm Montreal car order

The consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation and Alstom Transport confirmed Tuesday it has received a Notice to Proceed from Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) to supply 468 metro cars (52 nine-car trainsets). Bombardier said the contract signature was published on October 22.

bombardier_logo.jpgWith funding approval completed, the contract now enters into force and the final price has been fixed using the applicable exchange rate; the contract is valued at C$1.19 billion, or US$1.18 billion. Bombardier’s share is C$719 million CDN (US$715 million), while Alstom’s share is C$471 million, or US$468 million.

The design, manufacture, and final assembly of the new Montreal metro cars will be carried out at Bombardier’s facilities in La Pocatiere and Saint-Bruno, Quebec. Alstom’s sites in Sorel-Tracy and Montreal, Quebec, will also be involved. The first prototype train is to be delivered in June 2013, followed by the base order deliveries that are scheduled to take place between February 2014 and September 2018.
