Bombardier Transportation orders hit record

Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefBombardier Transportation’s backlog of undelivered orders stood at a record $32.7 billion on Oct. 31, a 21% increase since the beginning of the year, said Pierre Beaudoin, president and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc., on Thursday as he announced results for the company’s third fiscal quarter.
Beaudoin said orders received during the third quarter reached $3.7 billion, including one valued at $237 million to design, supply, and install a 24-kilometer (15-mile) INNOVIA Monorail 300 system in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for Companhia do Metropolitano de Sao Paolo. The group also signed a contract with Trenitalia of Italy for the delivery of 50 high speedtrainsets (400 cars) valued at $889 million. Bombardier Transportation also won a fourth contract, valued at $373 million, for 40 additional CRH1 high speed trains in China.
After the end of the quarter, the group signed a contract valued at $715 million to build 468 metro cars for Societe de transport de Montreal (STM).
Bombardier. Inc., which also has an Aerospace group, reported corporate net income of $143 million on consolidated revenue of $4 billion for the quarter compared to net income of $168 million on revenue totaling $4.6 billion for the prior-year period.
The backlog of undelivered orders stood at $48.9 billion on Oct.31, up from $43.8 billion as of January 31, 2010.
