KCS selects RMI’s RailDOCS for C&S asset management
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefThe Kansas City Southern Railway Company has chosen RMI’s Railway Daily Operations Control Systems (RailDOCS®) to manage monthly FRA compliance and preventive maintenance for communications and signaling assets. RMI Business Services will lead the RailDOCS implementation for KCS and activate more than 85 field engineers and management users. RMI is the largest independent provider of comprehensive rail information services to the transportation industry.

RailDOCS is an integrated suite of business systems that tracks and manages all design, operation, and maintenance data for signal and communication assets. It replaces traditional project management tools (spreadsheets, phone calls, and email) with a single, integrated web-based application and mobile connectivity to help managers easily navigate vast amounts of data and support real time decisions. The RailDOCS mobile application “is an industry leading feature that allows asset maintainers in the field to complete and record all inspection, maintenance, and compliance requirements on location,” the company said.
“RailDOCS integrates the latest FRA rules and regulations with company policies for asset management and maintenance to ensure C&S devices are always in compliance,” said Martin Paget, RMI Vice President for RailDOCS. “With the signing of a five-year license agreement, KCS will deploy two of the primary RailDOCS modules: Test & Inspection System for maintenance management of fixed signal and communication assets, and Configuration Management System for management of component guidelines and enhancements. We are delighted to have been selected by KCS as its provider for preventive maintenance management and FRA compliance. KCS’ confidence in RMI is very gratifying and we look forward to its success with RailDOCS, particularly as KCS deploys Positive Train Control across its network.”

Said Rick Stones, AVP Advanced Systems Planning, KCS, “RMI’s RailDOCS is a feature-rich, robust system that provides KCS the ability to empower asset maintainers in the field with a mobile application to manage data collection on location. The fact that RailDOCS goes into the field with the asset maintainer ensures our data is timely and accurate.”Kirk Knauff, RMI Vice President Marketing and Services, added “KCS is a valued partner of RMI and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to deliver RailDOCS and provide solutions for effective signal and communication asset management.”
