Groundbreaking for Atlantic Track and Turnout Co.

Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-Chief

Atlantic Track and Turnout Co. said it is expanding its trackwork manufacturing capability with the groundbreaking for a 20,000 sq. ft. addition to its Richmond, Ill., trackwork manufacturing facility.

The addition will house new equipment broadening the range of products and services Atlantic Track offers the railroad industry. In addition, the expansion provides additional indoor space for turnout panels and storage. Scheduled completion date is April 1, the company said.

The expansion of the Richmond facility follows Atlantic Track’s purchase of the assets of Mid-South Rail and Reconditioning, a Memphis, Tenn.-based special trackwork producer, last August.

“Atlantic Track’s decision to grow its frog and switch manufacturing business has been met with huge acceptance by our customer base,” said Atlantic Track President Peter Hughes.

Atlantic Track notes it is a 50/50 partner in MRT Track and Services Co. Inc. with ThyssenKrupp GfT Gleistechnik, Essen, Germany. The joint venture company brings European designs and products for transit authorities into the American market, the company says.
