RSI Scholarship applications due April 1

The Railway Supply Institute has set April 1 as its deadline for applications for its 2011/2012 School Year RSI Scholarship which provides four or more $3,000 scholarships to students from universities and community colleges throughout the country RSI members with children in undergraduate school, including international members, are eligible.

RSI says applicants can be pursuing any type of degree, not necessarily transportation-related.

In 2010, the RSI scholarship committee received more than 30 applications from students with outstanding scholastic records and community service activities. Scholarship application ranking is determined by academic record, extracurricular/ community service activity, content of essay, and letters of recommendations.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

1. The applicant must be the child / in legal custody of a current employee whose company is a current member of the RSI or one of the Coordinated Mechanical Associations (CMA). These include:

• Railway Supply Institute, Inc (RSI)

• Air Brake Association, Inc. (ABA)

• Mechanical Association Railcar Technical Services (MARTS)

• International Association of Railway Operating Officers (IAROO)

• Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association (LMOA).

2. The applicant must be currently enrolled as a full time student at an accredited / post-secondary institution leading to an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree. The curriculum must be certified by an accepted accreditation board in the U.S. An applicant from Canada or outside the U.S. should be enrolled in a curriculum which has comparable accreditation. The curriculum chosen does not have to be transportation or railroad related.

3. The applicant must expect to achieve at least Sophomore Status (30+ credit hours) in his/her institution by the beginning of the 2011 / 2012 academic year. ° High school students are not eligible for this scholarship even with college credit hours.

4. Recipients of the 2010 / 2011 RSI Scholarship are not eligible for a scholarship during the 2011 – 2012 school term.
