Amtrak sets rider, revenue records in FY11
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefAmtrak says it carried a record 30.2 million passengers in its fiscal year 2011, ending Sept. 30, 5%from fiscal 2010 and its eighth record annual ridership in the last nine years.
The railroad said 26 of its 44 services sent all-time records in FY11, with the year being the best yet for Northeast Regional service between Boston and Washington. Amtrak’s Acela Express service in the Northeast Corridor also did well. Long-distance trains notched their best ridership in 16 years.
Amtrak also noted its ridershiphas increased nearly 44% since fiscal year 2000.
