Bombardier Transportation backlog: $33 billion
Written by Douglas John BowenBombardier Transportation revenue amounted to US$2.3 billion in the third quarter ended Oct. 31, compared with US$2.2 billion for the same period in the 2010 fiscal year. EBIT totaled US$172 million, compared with US$152 million a year ago, while EBIT margin increased to 74% from 7% last fiscal year. The order backlog totaled US$33 billion on Oct. 31, a level similar to Jan. 31, 2011.
“The order intake for the quarter totaled US$1.6 billion including numerous follow-on orders from existing customers, such as an order from the Chicago Transit Authority for 300 additional rapid transit cars valued at US$331 million,” said a corporate earnings announcement Thursday. “Bombardier Transportation also received an order for 76 additional MOVIA metro cars from the Delhi Metro Rail Corp. Ltd., India, valued at US$120 million, as well as an order for a CITYFLO 650 complete mass transit solution valued at US$96 million form Companhia do Metropolitano de Sao Paulo in Brazil.”
Subsequent to quarter-end, Bombardier Transportation received an order for 54 MultiLevel rail vehicles from the Maryland Transit Administration, valued at US$154 million.
Corporate revenue including that of Bombardier Aerospace as well as Bombardier Transportation increased to US$4.6 billion, compared with US$4 billion in the comparable quarter last year. Earnings before financing income, financing expense, and income taxes (EBIT) totaled US$301 million, compared with US$250 million in the the quarter last year. Net income amounted to US$192 million for the third quarter, compared with US$147 million for the same period last year.
