MAC-IMPulse, LLC, an affiliate of MAC Products, Inc., has acquired the rail transit business assets of AFL Telecommunications (AFL). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kearny-N.J.-based MAC Products, Inc., on March 1 said the move will “expand the breadth and depth of the rail products MAC designs and manufactures.” MAC Products, Inc., produces equipment for overhead catenary systems and third-rail applications, as well as traction power products and switches, switch point heaters and controllers, and components for locomotives and passenger rolling stock. (It supplied overhead catenary system components for Phoenix Valley Metro’s Central Mesa LRT and Northwest Extension LRT projects in 2016.)

The purchase of AFL assets includes overhead contact system and catenary hardware for all types of electrical transit systems used in streetcar, light rail, intercity and commuter rail, freight rail, heritage trolley, and electric trolleybus applications.

The new combined company, MAC-IMPulse, LLC, will be based in Mt. Olive, N.C., at the former AFL Impulse facility.

“MAC and AFL’s Rail Products Group share a strong commitment to quality manufactured products and service to our customer base,” said MAC Products, Inc., President Eddie Russnow (contact: edward.russnow@macproducts.net). “Adding this product portfolio and the 18 staff joining our company will strengthen MAC’s position in the Electrified Mass Transit market.”

“MAC Products is a perfect match for AFL’s rail business and this new combination is exciting news for the transit industry,” said Eric Borowicz, General Manager of AFL’s accessories division (contact: eric.borowicz@AFLglobal.com).
